The Undeniable Influence of Kanye West Kanye Omari West, an icon of hip-hop, pop culture, fashion and music in general. Kanye Omari West, a person belittled against and a person subjected to a life of racism and hate. Born on June 8th, 1977, Donda West, West’s mother, always knew he was destined for greatness, but did she know her son would turn out to be the Kanye West, a man lacking the respect he deserves for transforming a big part of the music we listen to on this very day? West came onto the scene in the late nineties but didn’t release The College Dropout until 2004, an album that took everybody by surprise. Kanye West changed the gangster filled rap genre by releasing his positive, soulful debut album, changing the way rappers†¦show more content†¦By using the bear alone Mr. West turned Ralph Lauren onto the masses of rappers and fans (Kanye West: The Evolution of an Icon’s Clothes). As stated by West, he is â€Å"the most influential person in fashion in the last ten years†. That statement very well may be true. West is always in the public eye showing off his new outfits. These outfits are then turned over to the masses where people take inspiration from them. Many people like to mimic and dress after their favorite celebrity but it seems West has started an empire of clothing, striking deals with A.P.C., Nike, and Adidas seemingly creating some type of â€Å"sub-genre† to clothing called â€Å"streetwear†. West has been inspiring and influencing the way rappers and the regular population dress since the days he wore a bear on his shirt. Newer staples of West’s fashion are tighter fitting clothes, leather, and suits. These types of materials and clothing are undoubtedly a new trend in the hip-hop community and industry all courtesy to Kanye Omari West (C.M., Emmanuel). Rap with introspective, thought provoking lyrics never really dominated the industry. The type of rappers who wrote about these kinds of things were usually more underground artists and generally called â€Å"backpack rappers† and their fans, â€Å"backpackers†.
